FAQS

Submission guidelines:

1. You must own the image you are submitting, or have explicit permission from the owner to post it. Do not steal other people’s photos or infringe on anyone’s copyrights.  If an image of yours has been used without your permission contact us.  Violations will be removed.

2. Users must register on our site in order to submit images.

3. We moderate all submitted images and reserve the right to reject any image we deem inappropriate for our site.

4. Please submit aesthetically pleasing food related photos with thought to composition, lighting, color balance, etc.  If a photo is particularly appealing, but needs the levels tweaked or other minor adjustments, we reserve the right to make changes.  In most cases we will reject images that have problems.

5. Images will be cropped and resized to 250×250 pixels.  You can submit other sizes, but they will automatically be cropped and resized and the results may not be what you expect.  If you want to be sure of what you are submitting stick to 250×250 or at least a square aspect ratio.

How long will it take for my images to appear on the site?

Hard to say but we try to review all images in a timely manner.  It depends on how many submissions we are receiving so please be patient.  You will be sent an email when your image is moderated.

Can I remove my blog from your site?

Sure.  Just contact us, let us know your blog name and the images you wish removed.

I am changing domains, can you update the links on FoodGazing.com to direct viewers to my new site?

Maybe, but it depends on how many images you have on our site.   This is a very labor intensive process for us.  You should really redirect users to your new domain so that your readers can find you and do not get error messages.

Do I still own my own image once I submit it?

Absolutely.  By uploading you grant us non-exclusive rights to display your image on FoodGazing.com, but you still own the image an retain full rights to it.

Can I submit my images elsewhere?

Certainly.  While we’d love it if you only submitted to FoodGazing.com, you can submit the same image to any other site you like.

How do you decide which images will be accepted or rejected?

We are primarily looking for visually appealing images.  Things to think about when you shoot:

  • Is the food appealing and well presented?
  • Is the composition good?
  • Are the lighting, white balance, depth of field, and color balance good?
  • Are the levels and exposure correct or does the image appear to light/dark/or washed out?
  • Finally does the image look like something you’d see in a cookbook?  If so there is a good chance we’ll accept it.

What kinds of tags should I use when I submit an image?

Tags will help viewers find your posts when they use searches.  Use any tags you think are relevant.  For instance if your photo is of a tofu sandwich, you might use things like sandwich, lunch, vegetarian, tofu, etc.  Please don’t go crazy though and submit paragraphs of tags (tag spamming) since we will delete all but the first dozen or so.
